For partners and families sharing pet care
How to share pet medication tracking with your family
You are halfway out the door when your partner asks, “Did you give Milo his medication?” You remember getting it ready. They remember seeing the packet. Neither detail tells you what happened.
To share pet medication tracking with your family, use one household log, give each person their own account, and agree who handles each scheduled dose. In DoseHandoff, one person records an action and the other can check the shared record, including who marked it and when.

One action, a record you can both check
Milo’s existing schedule has an 8:00 AM entry. Alex handles the morning routine and records the action at 8:03 AM. Sam opens the shared History and can see who made the entry and when.
Illustrative example using demo names, not a recorded test.
The scheduled time describes the plan. The recording time tells you when someone entered the action.
Agree on three things before the next handoff
- Who handles each part of the day? For example, Alex takes mornings and Sam takes evenings, following the pet’s existing instructions.
- How does responsibility change? If Alex is delayed, ask Sam to take over and wait for an explicit reply. Do not assume a message has been seen.
- What happens if the record is unclear? Contact the person responsible and follow the veterinarian’s existing instructions for uncertain or missed doses.
These agreements work with a paper log too. Keep it in one agreed place and record actions consistently. The handoff checklist gives you a place for written instructions and contacts.
Invite your partner to the same household
These steps describe iPhone version 1.1.3.
- On the owner’s iPhone, open Settings → Household & access → Members → Invite caregiver. Enter the caregiver’s email and tap Create invite code.
- On Invite ready, choose Share invite or Copy code and send it privately. An email is not sent automatically.
- On a fresh installation, your partner reads and acknowledges the tracker disclaimer, then chooses I have an invite on the welcome screen. They paste the code, tap Continue and sign in with their own Apple or Google account.
- They confirm with Join household. Check that both phones show the same pet and schedule before relying on the shared log.
The owner manages pets, medications and billing. The caregiver can see the shared log and mark doses.
Already created a separate household?
The invitation steps above are for joining during initial setup. If you already belong to another household or the invitation fails, contact support from the app for help. Do not delete your records to try to join; this guide does not describe merging two histories.
Family member or temporary sitter?
A family caregiver joins the household through the app with their own account. A temporary sitter can use a browser link without installing the app or registering. For occasional visits, see how to hand over medication to a sitter.
Questions before you invite someone
Do two people need a subscription?
A household with one pet can start on Free with the owner and one caregiver. Free includes 14 days of History; Plus supports more pets and caregivers and full history.
Does each person need an account?
Yes. Family caregivers use their own account in the iPhone app. You do not need to share a password.
What if the code does not work?
Check the message in the app. An expired, cancelled or already-used invitation may need to be replaced by the owner. Contact support from the app if you cannot resolve the problem.
Make the next handoff easier to check
Choose one shared household, agree who is responsible, and record each action with your own account. The useful change is simple: your partner has a record to check when you are not beside them.
Start your shared log on iPhone.
DoseHandoff records care. It does not choose medications, calculate doses or provide veterinary advice. Read the veterinary disclaimer.
